This exciting week of training, led by violence risk assessment specialists, is designed to enable BIT and CARE team members to practice and enhance their skills. Each training welcomes active participation and practical learning, providing you with renewed confidence in your work. Plus, the trainings are designed to enhance your proficiency in conducting risk assessments, articulating rationales, and evaluating an individual’s risk and protective factors that could mitigate the likelihood of violence and self-harm. SIVRA-35 in Practice

Monday, December 9 | 10am-5pm ET

This one-day certification course boosts practitioners’ comfort and skills in using NABITA’s Structured Interview for Violence Risk Assessment (SIVRA-35) tool. It provides a refresher on SIVRA-35 and detailed training on conducting interviews for accurate results. Designed for those looking to improve their interviewing skills, the course uses case scenarios to facilitate the live roleplay of a SIVRA interview in a supportive setting, allowing practitioners to practice and get feedback on their skills. In this course, you will:

  • Apply the SIVRA-35 to an in-depth case study to accurately interpret and score a case
  • Conduct an effective SIVRA interview to obtain accurate and robust information
  • Gather follow-up information and identify other key stakeholders to interview in a case to check the accuracy of the information and gather additional insight

VRA Report Writing Workshop

Tuesday, December 10 | 10am-2pm ET

This four-hour writing workshop is designed to enhance the professional writing skills of all experience-level practitioners who administer violence risk assessments. Participants will learn how to significantly improve written findings, leading to more effective interventions and measures for ensuring the safety of individuals and communities.

A Violence Risk Assessment (VRA) is a crucial tool for gauging an individual’s potential for violence based on their protective and risk factors. A well-crafted report can effectively harness a VRA. Such a report empowers professionals to implement the most fitting interventions and supportive measures, thereby ensuring the safety of both the individual and the community. Learn more.

After completing this course, participants will be able to…

  • Determine the information that should be included in each section of a VRA report and provide a rational for SIVRA-35 scoring
  • Address the absence of specific evidence in an VRA report
  • Identify problematic language in reports and suggest remedies
  • Integrate different sources of information into a report in a clear manner
  • Use best practices for protecting participant privacy through redaction, etc.

Non-Clinical Assessment of Suicide (NAS) in Practice

Wednesday, December 11 | 10am-5pm ET

This one-day certification course builds upon concepts learned in the Non-Clinical Assessment of Suicide (NAS) training. This training provides extensive practice and skill-building in conducting NAS in variable contexts. 

Assessing suicide risk can be complex and overwhelming. Participants will develop skills related to conducting an interview to determine an individual’s risk. Following a brief review of NAS, participants will practice conducting a NAS by engaging in scenarios and receiving feedback on their interview skills. By engaging in role-play practice of the interview, participants will develop skills for building rapport, asking questions, and gathering information to facilitate the assessment of suicide risk.   • Apply the NAS to specific cases and presenting issues
  • Conduct an effective NAS interview to obtain accurate and robust information
  • Develop appropriate interventions for specific cases and presenting issues

There are scholarships available for NABITA’s Risk Assessment Tools Focus Week. Scholarships must be submitted by January 12th, 2024.

If your application is approved, you will be notified via email 2 weeks prior to your course start date. To apply, click here.

Those attending a certification course will receive a certification for the course as well as recertifying credits (CCCs) for any current certification for a 2-year time period.

All attending our courses will receive a digital badge denoting completion.
