Client Need and Issue:
A large K-12 school district that employs almost 1,200 teachers and staff members realized a significant opportunity regarding its behavioral intervention teams. The district recognized the need to build upon their Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) systems with complementary and robust training for their staff. Their goal was not only to enhance the skills of their personnel but also to meet the requirements of a state-based grant that mandated the use of the NABITA* standards.
With a plan to implement BITs across every school in their district, the district needed professional training that could be tailored to their diverse team, comprised of principals, superintendents, counselors, and educational faculty.
TNG Approach and Solution:
TNG responded with a training-centered approach, leveraging seasoned experts in the field. Recognizing the opportunity to dovetail consulting services with the district’s existing PBIS framework, NABITA crafted a series of comprehensive training modules engineered to reinforce best practices and introduce innovative strategies. The multi-faced solution included intensive training with 16 staff members, sharing insights and methodologies with the BTAM team, and private training sessions where consultants engaged with the school more intimately to ensure that nuanced needs and specific questions were addressed.
The district used grant funding to implement BITs at every school and the threat assessment process at the district level. It used NABITA’s model to train all staff, allowing the district’s processes and teams to progress significantly.
Outcome:
The initiative was successful as dozens of the school’s administrative staff members emerged from the trainings with newfound knowledge and readiness to implement BTAM teams effectively. The training sessions were informative and transformative, equipping educational staff with the requisite skills to create safer and more supportive school environments.
