June 29, 2023—NABITA is disheartened by the Supreme Court’s decision in Students for Fair Admissions Inc. (SFFA) v. President and Fellows of Harvard College and SFFA v. the University of North Carolina.
Research shows that whenever a state bans consideration of race in college admissions, enrollment of marginalized students drops in that state’s public institutions. College enrollment should reflect America’s population; if it does not, colleges should be permitted to use appropriate tools to ameliorate that inequity.
Our association is committed to educational equity, civil rights, access, and well-being. We stand with our members and clients working toward more diverse, inclusive institutions and providing equitable opportunities to attain a college degree. Creating welcoming, safe environments where all people belong and can succeed is a value that we stand behind relentlessly.
Seattle University School of Law will be hosting a national rapid response webinar regarding the Supreme Court decision on Affirmative Action on Friday, June 30 at 1:00 p.m. ET. Sign up to receive a webinar registration link.
