Happy New Year, NABITA members! As the calendar turns over into 2022, we thought a retrospective of all the good progress NABITA made in Congress through 2021 was in order – as well as an outline of what is to come in 2022. Overall, 2021 was a banner year for NABITA on Capitol Hill! NABITA was instrumental in the drafting and the passage of the BIG Act by 324 votes in the House this March. What’s more, NABITA worked with Senator John Cornyn’s office (R-TX) to land Senator Angus King (I-ME) as a co-sponsor and grow the Senate support for the BIG Act from zero to eight offices in under a year. In addition, NABITA held 66 meetings with Congressional offices and the Biden Administration to raise awareness of NABITA, advance legislation, and foster relationships. The groundwork NABITA has laid puts us ahead of the curve for our 2022 legislative plans. In 2022, our focus is to continue to advocate for the BIG Act by asking our members to help explain BITs to Congress. Please be on the lookout for an invitation to participate from a member of the NABITA team! In addition to our continued efforts with the BIG Act, it is our hope that NABITA will be able to find more legislative opportunities to lend expertise to, as well as branch out into state-level advocacy.
