RESOURCE SPOTLIGHT
This week NaBITA spotlights the Illinois Emergency Management Agency (IEMA) Ready to Respond Campus program. The initiative is meant to enhance safety for students, staff, and visitors on college and university campuses. To attain the Ready to Respond Campus designation, colleges must demonstrate compliance with standards for hazard identification, operational and violence prevention planning, incident management, training, exercises and crisis communications/public education. To learn more about Ready to Respond, including the schools that are involved in the pilot program, click here.
TIP OF THE WEEK
Three Resources in Threat Assessment
I am often asked to recommend key works of scholarship and practice that are helpful for those interested in learning more about how to assess violence. As administrators look ahead and plan staff retreats and in-services during the summer months, I hope you find the following resources useful as you continue to enhance your staff and faculty’s threat assessment skills. I find myself citing these three resources often as I complete research for an upcoming book for counselors and psychologists looking to build their clinical skills in the area of violence assessment; however, I find that they are also helpful for both clinical staff and administrators alike. Click here to learn about three resources you can use to better understand threat assessment.
