RESOURCE SPOTLIGHT

The College Presidents' Gun Violence Resource Center was established by Emerson College President Lee Pelton and 255 other college presidents in January 2013, as a clearinghouse for information on what colleges and universities are doing to examine America's culture of gun violence. College presidents can make a pledge to President Obama to participate in this initiative and can connect with one another here at the Gun Violence Resource Center.

The public tweet mentioned Kent State, identified the university president by name and included the threat, "I'm shooting up your school ASAP.” University officials identified this particular communication because Kent State monitors social media for specific keywords that allude to potential violence. Learn about the new trend of data mining here.
